Baby Steps

I just realized I haven’t eaten any animal products for a whole week!

And to make this post longer than one sentence, I am going to recommend a yummy salad I had today. It’s the Strawberry Poppyseed salad from Panera. It has lettuce strawberries, blueberries, mandarin oranges, pineapple, pecans and a lemon poppyseed dressing. Delicious, perfect for summer and totally vegan!

  1. Congrats!

That salad sounds so good! I’m really sad we don’t have a Panera here. I used to love to have black bean soup in a bread bowl! <3

  2. aw great job! I’m having a hard time making it a whole week for some reason. You should be really proud of yourself. =) It’s not easy, esp in the beginning.

    • thanks so much!

what’s the hardest thing for you to give up?

mine is cheese and i was sooo tempted to take a bite of the kraft mac and cheese i made for my grandma last night. somehow i made it though. i think i was afraid if i took one bite i would unravel. haha

      • Well, for me it seems to be more circumstancial. I actually thought I would miss cheese a lot, but I really don’t. Just, when I’m in certain situations like at a restaurant I didn’t choose that doesn’t have any good vegan options, or a potluck and I’m starving, or at a work event where there is nothing vegan. I tend to cave in then more than not. =(

I mean, otherwise its cake ya know? =) At home, I could eat vegan forever. Plus, its fun making vegan stuff. I think its just hard because I’m the only vegan at work and the only one out of my friends. I know vegetarians, and my gf is basically vegetarian, but its still hard because I’m concerned about any animal product ya know?

So great job. =) I think I’ve gone 4 days and then screwed up. That’s my best so far.

        • oh and when I get depressed I sometimes get fast food cheeseburgers… I have to be REALLY depressed though! Isn’t that horrible?

I tell people, “If you ever see me eating White Castle, you know I’ve hit rock bottom”

          • Well, I haven’t had much of a chance to test out my actual will-power yet at things like restaurants and pot-lucks. So we’ll see how I do in the face of an amazing-looking cheese pizza or a Costco sheet cake! haha. I definitely understand the blight of emotional eating. I’m a stress-eater for sure. I just think I’ll need to have vegan alternatives to my normal stress-foods on hand in case of emergency!
